A Yankees Fan in Boston

Jan from Wellesley writes:

Most folks feel this is going to get done anyway, right? So why all the righteous indignation from the Sox camp and some of their fans? So they got spanked for all the tampering in which they've been allowed to engage, so all the favored treatment they've received from their buddy, the Commish, hasn't paid off -- yet. So the great crusader for players' rights, Alex Rodriguez, hasn't been allowed to do what he wants. Imagine that! -- the nerve of anyone trying to stand in the way of the great, magnanimous A-Rod! Again, guys, if this was any other organization, you'd be screaming in outrage over how this deal was allowed to develop. Anyway, just relax -- this is just a minor setback.

Hey, counterpoint... I'm a Yankee fan and I see no reason why this deal shouldn't be allowed to go through. A-Rod is willing to take a pay cut? It's amazing to me the righteous indignation over a player actually saying basically "OK, maybe that contract was a bit high..."

That the MLBPA is against the trade -- which all the players involved want -- speaks volumes about who the MLBPA really and truly represents.

Everyone bitches and moans about the inflated prices on players, but when a couple players and teams get together to come to something they can all agree to which ALSO attacks the "overpaid player" issues, why are those same people so reticent to accept it? *sigh*

The MLBPA is way out of line on this issue. There is no way that this negotiation becomes a precedent & the trickle down theory is rediculous. If A-Rod, the Red Sox and the Rangers are in agreement, why shouldn't the deal be acceptable. It is shameful to see how the MLBPA holds the true power.

It doesn't matter what team this happens to...it's just wrong.

One thing is for sure, if the trade doesn't go through eventually, than there is going to be ALOT of hate from Red Sox Nation. And other places as well. Black eye for baseball.
