New Twist

While I was reading Moneyball, I came across something interesting. I believe Lewis asked DePodesta what he thought of the On-Base+Slugging stat. DePodesta thought that OBA was worth about three times the player's slugging percentage. So I thought I'd figure out a variation of OBA+Slugging, which is a weighted average of the two (3*OBA+Slugging)/4. As you can see, the two stats are similar, but there are a number of people who move up. Bonds moves ahead of Pujols, Milton Bradley inches out Mike Sweeney, and Edgar Martinez jumps ahead of Bret Boone. An interesting list.
