Games of the Day

The Yankees and Red Sox meet for the first time this season as two struggling aces take the mound. Chris Sale comes into the game 0-3 with a 9.00 ERA for the Red Sox. Sale owned the lowest BA allowed in the AL the previous two seasons, .196, and the lowest slugging percentage allowed in the majors. This season, batters are hitting .308/.367/.596 against him. James Paxton owns a 6.00 ERA so far, as he allowed 20 hits in 15 innings despite striking out 19. He has held opponents to a .167 BA with runners in scoring position.

The Pirates visit the surprising Tigers as Joe Musgrove takes on Matt Boyd. Musgrove so far is strong in all three-true outcomes, with no home runs, three walks, and 15 strikeouts in 15 1/3 innings. Boyd continues his improved strikeout rate with 29 K in 17 1/3 innings. He has yet to allow a home run, also.

Finally, Robby Ray and the Diamondbacks face Max Fried and the Braves. Ray is effectively wild this season. While he allowed eleven walks in 15 1/3 innings, he allowed just seven hits thanks to 22 strikeouts. His strengths are compensating for his weaknesses. Fried controls hits without strikeouts. With just three walks and nine strikeouts in 13 2/3 innings, batters are putting the ball in play against him with poor results.
