LeMahieu Strained

The Rockies held on in a high-scoring close game to beat the Diamondbacks 11-10 Friday night. They lost an important player, however:

Leadoff hitter and two-time Gold Glove second baseman DJ LeMahieu is going back on the 10-day disabled list after sustaining an oblique injury.

LeMahieu, 30, was pulled from the game before the third inning, after flying out in his first two at-bats. It was LeMahieu’s second injury in the past week. He was a late scratch from last Saturday night’s game against the Mariners because of lower-back stiffness. LeMahieu played on Sunday, the final game before the all-star break.

LeMahieu played below his career averages this season, but healthy would make the Rockies that much better as they take part in the best division race in baseball. The good news is that the Rockies are 38-34 when LeMahieu plays, 14-11 without him. So far, Colorado weathered his injuries well.
