Tampa Town Races

The Rays acquired Lucas Duda from the Mets:

The out-of-contention New York Mets started their veteran dispersal by trading first baseman Lucas Duda to the Tampa Bay Rays for minor league pitcher Drew Smith.

The Rays are taking on all of Duda’s salary, about $2.5 million, according to ESPN’s Buster Olney.

Duda is producing the highest slugging percentage of the year. Rays first basemen are walking and hitting for power, but not getting hits. Duda seems to bit into that role perfectly, as he is another Logan Morrison. I suspect one of them will be used as a designated hitter.

Smith has great strikeout and good walk numbers, but he hasn’t pitched much above A ball.
