Playoffs Today

The Astros and Yankees kick off the 2015 post-season with the AL Wild Card at Yankee Stadium. Dallas Keuchel takes on Masahiro Tanaka. Keuchel should give David Price a run for his money for the AL Cy Young Award. Keuchel was the only twenty-game winner in the AL, posting a 2.48 ERA, second to Price. His strength was a low home run rate, just 17 long balls allowed in 232 innings. Tanaka’s weakness was the home run, with 25 allowed in 154 innings. He walked just 27, however, to somewhat lessen the impact of those home runs. Both teams hit over 200 homer on the season the Astros ranking second with 230, the Yankees fourth at 212. It’s strength against strength for Keuchel and the Yankees, weakness against strength for Tanaka and the Astros. It’s even worse than that, as 17 of Tanaka’s 25 homers allowed came in Yankee Stadium. I will note that Keuchel gave up 13 of his 17 homers on the road.

I will not be surprised if all the runs score on homers, and each team hits three or four.

Enjoy!
