Scherzer in the Ninth

Max Scherzer tries to pitch his second no-hitter of the season by getting three outs in the ninth. He has 15 strikeouts, and one Mets batter reached on an error.

Yoenis Cespedes will pinch hit.

Update: Cespedes falls behind 0-2. He fouls off two pitches, then works the count even. Scherzer gets him swinging with a high strikeout. Lucas Duda pinch hits.

Update: Duda falls behind 0-2. He strikes out on a 1-2 pitch. Scherzer has now struck out nine in a row.

Update: Curtis Granderson falls behind 1-2. Granderson popped up to third, and Scherzer has done it!

Update: An amazing game. Scherzer struck out 17, including nine in a row, 1 to 9 in the order, the third time through the order. A great way for Max to end both a great and a disappointing season.

Update: He’s the sixth pitcher to throw two no-hitters in a season.
