Scherzer Tries Again

Max Scherzer is perfect through five against the Mets. He came into the game averaging 4.8 outs before his first hit allowed in a game, second in the majors behind 5.06 by Corey Kluber. Scherzer’s average will go up. He has struck out eight through five, while Matt Harvey K’d 10, giving up three hits. There’s no score.

Update: The Nationals take a 1-0 lead in the top of the sixth. In the bottom of the inning, Yunel Escobar commits an error to end the perfect game.

Update: Scherzer strikes out the side in the seventh, and is six outs away from his second no-hitter of the season. He struck out 12 so far.

Update: Scherzer gets through eight. We’ll see if he can go all the way again.
