Games of the Day

Adam Warren leads the Yankees into Toronto to face David Price with the AL East title on the line. A Yankees sweep of the three-game series puts New York in first place. Toronto needs one win to keep the Yankees game-in-hand from at least creating a tie. Warren owns better walk and strikeout rates as a reliever than a stater, and that’s reflected in his 3.63 ERA as a starter versus 2.51 coming out of the bullpen. Price has been lights out since joining the Blue Jays, with 74 K and just three home runs allowed in 62 1/3 innings.

Masahiro Tanaka will not be able to pitch in the series due to a slight hamstring strain.

Jered Weaver and the Angels try to gain a game on Houston in the AL West as the Astros send Dallas Keuchel to the mound. Weaver owns a 1.71 ERA against Houston in three starts, walking just two batters in 21 innings. Keuchel comes off his worst start of the season, part of the sweep by the Rangers. Keuchel pitched well against the Angels, however, with a 1.93 ERA in three starts, striking out 21 in 18 2/3 innings.

Finally, the Pirates board Coors Field as A.J. Burnett takes on rookie Jon Gray. This is just Burnett’s third career start at Coors Field. The first two were not pretty. Gray is fast becoming Mr. No Decision, as he is 0-1 in eight starts. He pitched decently well in terms of three-true outcomes, with 35 strikeouts, 13 walks, and two home runs in 36 innings. I suspect the ERA will improve.

Enjoy!

rbj » I looked at the Tigers lineup and didn’t recognize most of the names. My first thought was that Jeff would make a great AAA pitcher. 🙂
