Games of the Day

The Diamonbacks visit the Cubs as Robbie Ray tries to stop Jake Arrieta from collecting his 18th win. Ray has pitched well in terms of three-true outcomes, and his 3.72 ERA is not bad. He deserves better than a 3-10 record. He suffered a string of five straight starts in August in which the Diamondbacks scored two runs or less. Arrieta owns a 1.03 ERA since the All-Star break, just slightly higher than Clayton Kershaw.

The Pirates try to cut another game off the Cardinals lead in the NL Central as Charlie Morton faces Jaime Garcia. Morton owns a high ERA on the road this season, mostly because he allowed half his extra-base hits with men on base. Garcia is having a great season, but health limited him to just 14 starts. He allowed just four home runs in 93 innings.

Finally, Derek Holland takes on Jered Weaver as the Rangers and Angels battle for a wild card slot, and a possible division title. Holland owns a 2.82 ERA in his four starts since coming off the DL, walking one and striking out 20 in 22 1/3 innings. He allowed five home runs, however, accounting for six of the seven runs scored against him. Weaver is posting the highest season ERA of his career at 4.94. He’s been even worse since the All-Star break at 5.59.

Enjoy!
