Smokin’ Days are Over

It looks like Tim Lincecum will no longer be smoking hitters:

The team confirmed Lincecum underwent arthroscopic surgery on his Thursday at the Steadman Clinic in Vail. Colo.

“Lincecum is resting comfortably and is expected to begin his rehab in the next few days in preparation for the 2016 season,” the team said in a statement.

That means Lincecum, 31, is done for this season, which almost certainly signals the end of the pitcher’s career in San Francisco.

If so, it will be a tough pill for legions of fans who love “The Freak” and understand how his arrival in 2007 helped pivot the franchise toward its run of World Series championships.

My guess is he would be gone from the Giants hip surgery or not.

Hip surgery techniques improved in the last few years.. Just look at Alex Rodriguez. Lincecum is a lot younger, and maybe will heal just as well. If an improved hip returns him to his mechanics of a few years ago, it’s probably worth the chance for some team to take a flyer on the righty.
