Alternate Massive Tie Scenario

With Cleveland and Houston losing two in a row, this alternate massive tie scenario emerged. Houston, Texas, and the Angels tie for the AL West title, with Tampa Bay and Minnesota tied with them for the second wild card. That would need a two-day playoff to determine the division champion, then another two day playoff to determine the wild card. It can happen at 92 wins:

  • Astros 19-9
  • Rangers 22-8
  • Twins 23-7
  • Angels 25-4
  • Rays 26-3

The Rangers, Angels, and Twins play a total of 16 games against the Astros, so there is plenty of opportunity to bring Houston back to the pack. The Angels also play seven games against Texas. The Twins play the Astros over the weekend, so keep your eye on that series.

Tampa Bay just needs to keep winning.

NL is probably all set now, with those teams all locked in at their current spot in the standings. Playoff arrangements can be made a month early. Only races are in the AL, division in the West and East, and the WC, but not as many teams with a shot for the WC as you would expect with a month to go.
