Game of Inches

Fans talk about baseball being a game of inches, and they just showed why in Toronto. Cleveland led 1-0 in the bottom of the fifth when two infield hits off the glove of the pitcher Danny Salazar put men on base with two outs. That brought up Josh Donaldson, who hit a 3-2 pitch deep to the rightfield side of center. Abraham Almonte raced back for the ball, but it fell just out of his reach for Donaldson’s first triple of the season. Three close plays in a row turned a scoreless inning into a 2-1 deficit.

Update: Edwin Encarnacion leads off the bottom of the sixth with a single to extend his hitting streak to 26 games. That ties him for the second longest in Blue Jays history. Shawn Green holds the record with 28.
