Games of the Day

The Indians carry a five-game winning streak into Toronto to face the hot Blue Jays. The Indians five-game streak pushed them ahead of the Orioles in the wild card race, Cleveland now five games behind Texas for the second slot. Danny Salazar takes on David Price. Salazar owns the fifth highest strikeout rate in the majors, 10.1 per nine innings. Price attempts to go 5-0 in August and keep his ERA for the month under 2.00. He struck out 41 and walked seven in 36 1/3 August innings.

Vidal Nuno tries to beat leading Cy Young Award candidate Dallas Keuchel as the Mariners play the Astros. Nuno owns a 2.88 ERA, mostly as a reliever. He allowed six home runs in 19 2/3 innings as a starter. Keuchel is 11-0 at home with a 1.35 ERA. All nine home runs he allowed came on the road. The Mariners did knock him around a bit the only time he faced them.

The Nationals can’t afford to lose many more games as they travel to St. Louis. Gio Gonzalez takes on John Lackey. Gonzalez owns a 4.39 ERA since the All-Star break despite good three-true outcome numbers. He’s allowed a .318 BA with runners in scoring position. Lackey owns a 1.91 ERA in St. Louis this season, with just five home runs and 19 walks allowed there in 94 innings.

Finally, the Giants sit 3 1/2 games behind the Dodgers as they visit Los Angeles. San Francisco sends Jake Peavy against Brett Anderson. Peavy is 7-1 at Dodger Stadium in his career, with a 2.83 ERA. Anderson walked seven and struck out 12 Giants in 21 innings, helping him to a 4.71 ERA against the team’s biggest rival.
