Games of the Day

The Orioles try to chase down the Rangers this weekend, starting with Kevin Gausman facing Cole Hamels. Gausman moved into the rotation on June 20, and owns a 1-5 record with a 4.26 ERA in that time. This despite an excellent walk rate, and okay strikeout and home run rates. Hamels allowed five home runs in 26 2/3 innings for Texas, after giving up 12 in 128 2/3 innings for the Phillies.

The Astros try to shut down the Twins chance at a wild card as Scott Kazmir takes on Kyle Gibson. Kazmir produced a low ERA in six starts for Houston, but only has a 2-3 record to show for it. Gibson tries to right a terrible August in which he is 0-1 with a 6.35 ERA in five starts. He walked 13 and allowed four home runs in 28 1/3 innings.

The Cubs travel to Los Angeles to play the Dodgers with Jason Hamel facing Clayton Kershaw. Hamel struck out 3.6 batters for every one he walked in 2014, an impressive ratio. This season he improved that to 4.8 K/BB. Kershaw owned a 4.32 ERA after nine starts despite good three-true outcome numbers. Since then, he allowed a 1.29 ERA, with even better walk and home run numbers.

Finally, Michael Wacha battles Mike Leake as the Cardinals visit the Giants. Wacha goes for his 10th road win in 14 start. He’s struck out 70 in 81 road innings with just 18 walks. Leake has a long history against the Cardinals, since he spent most of his career in the same division. The Cardinals usually came out on top.

Enjoy!
