The Padres and Nationals are both trying to climb back into their division races as Tyson Ross faces Max Scherzer. Tyson Ross strikeouts out 9.5 batters per nine innings this season, the best seasonal rate of his career. His HR allowed are very low, but his walks are very high. Scherzer owns a 6.86 ERA in August despite a high strikeout rate He allowed 29 hits and five home runs in 21 August innings.

The Angels send Hector Santiago against Justin Verlander, but the big story of the game is Miguel Cabrera. Cabrera owns a ten-game hit streak, collecting multiple hits in nine of those games, including the last seven. Cabrera is 2 for 11 with three walks and three strikeouts against Santiago.

Finally, Wei-Yin Chen tries to stop the Orioles losing streak against the tough Johnny Cueto and the first place Royals. Chen tries to finish up a good August. So far, he’s 2-0 in four starts witha 2.59 ERA. Cueto tries to recover after getting pounded by the Red Sox for 13 hits and seven runs in six innings.
