The 70 year old Larry Lucchino is leaving the Red Sox:
Lucchino has been with the Red Sox since February 2002. His contract was set to expire at the end of the year.
Red Sox executive vice president and chief operating officer Sam Kennedy is expected to replace Lucchino as team president.
Sounds like it’s time to retire.
Although it is high time for him to retire, he’s not going softly. His new gig is transitioning the Red Sox AAA affiliate from a small-business, family-friendly community staple in Pawtucket to a taxpayer-funded, luxury-oriented new profit stream for the Sox in Providence. So not exactly time to go play golf in Florida for the rest of his days.
