The Price is Right

The Blue Jays pull off their second big deal, acquiring the services of David Price from the Detroit Tigers.

The Detroit Tigers have agreed to trade their left-handed ace to the Toronto Blue Jays. The first to report on the trade before it became official was CBS Sports’ Jon Heyman.

Headlining the minor leaguers back to the Tigers is left-hander Daniel Norris, who is the best big-league-ready prospect in Toronto’s system. Also in the deal are left-handed pitchers Jairo Labourt, 21, and Matt Boyd, 24.

Price is a terrific pitcher and very much used to the AL East from his time in Tampa Bay. He has never lost a game at Skydome.

Daniel Norris was great in the minors in terms of strikeouts and home runs, but weak in terms of walks. In his 30 innings in the majors, walks really hurt him. Labourt has the same profile, but hasn’t pitched in the majors yet. In 6 2/3 innings for the Jays this year, Boyd allowed five home runs. He was good at keeping the ball in the park in the minors.

The Blue Jays did the same thing as the Royals, making themselves stronger up the middle with two superstars. Toronto has a way to go to catch the Yankees, but they put themselves in an excellent position to win one of the wild cards.

Only 6 games behind the Yankees with 13 games against them remaining. Based on run differential they may have been a better team even before adding Tulo and Price. Yankees just lost Pineda to the DL, Tanaka has been shaky, CC awful, and Nova has a dead arm. They had a good run in July, but for most of the year have been closer to a 500 team. Great pen but can it withstand the workload?. Miller has not been as effective since coming off the DL for a forearm strain. Jays need to upgrade the pen though
