Nick Ahmed is from the town next door to the Baseball Musings home base, and it looks like he turned things around and earned a spot as the Diamondbacks everyday shortstop. He started the season poorly, posting a .130/.221/.143 slash line through May 11th, his first 27 games of the season. He walked a decent amount, but struck out in 2/7 of his at bats. Since then Ahmed found his groove. In his last 48 games he posted a .301/.355/.474 slash line. Had he hit like that the entire season, he might be on the All-Star team. Both FanGraphs and Baseball Reference rate him as a good fielder, so if he can continue this level of offense, he’ll wind up one of the best in the league, and solve the Diamondbacks shortstop position for a few years.
