Games of the Day

The Astros travel to Cleveland as Dallas Keuchel battles Carlos Carrasco. Keuchel is the leading Cy Young candidate in the AL according to Tom Tango’s tracking formula. Keuchel has been human on the road with a 3.14 ERA. All seven of the home runs against him came away from Houston. Carrasco seems to have a high ERA given his good three-true outcome numbers. It’s tough to see where the bad luck comes in, since he allows a .218 BA with runners in scoring position. His .270 BA allowed with runners on base indicates with a man on first only he’s given up a lot, setting up plenty of scoring opportunities.

The Cardinals travel to Chicago as the Cubs try once again to gain ground in the NL Central race. John Lackey takes on Jon Lester in a battle of former teammates. Lackey gave up just two home runs at home this year, but six on the road in 23 2/3 fewer innings than in St. Louis. Lester may be hurt by the Cubs defense, as he allowed 100 hits in 96 1/3 innings despite striking out 93. The BABIP against him stands at .325.

Finally, the Blue Jays try to stop Chris Sale 10K streak as Mark Buehrle takes on the White Sox ace. Buehrle goes for a streak of his own. A win gives him 15 straight years with double digit wins. Sale struck out at least 10 batters in each of his last eight games. That tied a record held by Pedro Martinez. Sale was well over 10 K in six of those starts. Amazingly, with a 1.80 ERA in that stretch, his record is just 3-3.

Enjoy!
