Elbow Boom

Both Andrew McCutchen and Tim Lincecum were forced out of game today due to balls hitting them on their elbows. McCutchen:

McCutchen winced when a 92 mph fastball from Julio Teheran smacked into the 2013 National League MVP’s elbow. X-rays were negative, and the team said McCutchen would be re-evaluated Sunday.

Lincecum:

Lincecum was struck by DJ LeMahieu‘s liner in the second inning. The ball deflected to first baseman Buster Posey, who threw home to get Chris Rusin trying to score.

Lincecum walked around the mound after being hit and quickly exited.

Lincecum’s place in the Giants rotation was precarious, and this won’t help. A serious injury to McCutchen would greatly hurt the Pirates playoff chances.

No matter how many times I read it, the phrase “first baseman Buster Posey” never feels right.
