Successful Return

Ivan Nova returned to the Yankees Wednesday after a year out for Tommy John surgery. He pitched 6 2/3 scoreless innings against the Phillies for a successful return. I will note, however, that he was not overpowering. He walked two and struck out one, but the Phillies only managed three hits on their 23 balls in play against Nova.

Nova posted a fairly low strike out rate in his first two seasons. That rate picked up in his second two seasons. If this start is any indication, we may see more of the 2010-2011 Nova.

The Yankees beat the Phillies 10-2. They recorded 21 at bats with runners in scoring position.
