Rise and Fall

Prince Fielder took over the major league lead in batting average Tuesday night, passing Dee Gordon as Fielder surges and Gordon fades. Through games of May 15, Gordon was hitting .433, while Fielder was hitting a robust .345, second in the AL. Since then Gordon collected just one multi-hit game, with lots of 1 for four or five at bats. He’s hitting .184 in his last 11 games. Fielder continues to improve. He hit .455 in his last 10 games, 20 for 44 with seven multi-hit games and nine extra-base hits. More importantly, Texas won eight of those ten games and seven in a row, tying the Angels for second place in the AL West. Miami continued to lose, dropping nine of eleven games, seven of the nine after replacing the manager.

Prince may turn out to post one of the great come-back years of all time.
