Games of the Day

It’s a tough day to choose, with lots of good games and pitching match-ups. The Phillies have been nearly as hot as the Nationals over the last ten games as they descend on Washington with Sean O’Sullivan facing Max Scherzer. O’Sullivan allowed few hits so far this season, especially with runners in scoring position. Batters are hitting just .150 against him in that situation. Scherzer struck out 66 batters in just 56 2/3 innings so far this season. The Phillies do not strike out much as a team, so this should be a good test for Max.

Oakland and Tampa Bay continue their series with former Rays star Scott Kazmir taking on current Rays star Chris Archer. Both are striking out lots of batters with few walks, but Kazmir allowed five home runs in 49 2/3 innings, while Archer gave up just three homers in 54 2/3 innings.

The battle of Missouri takes place in Kansas City as both the Royals and Cardinals lead their divisions. Lance Lynn takes on the rejuvenated Chris Young. Lynn is just 3-3 despite a 2.98 ERA. The Cardinals scored just 25 runs in his eight starts. Young owns an 0.94 ERA in three starts and six relief appearances. As a starter he allowed just seven hits in 16 2/3 innings, helping him to a 0.54 ERA.

Finally, Andrew Cashner battles Zack Greinke as the Padres visit the Dodgers. Cashner lost seven of his eight starts, the Padres scoring just four runs in his last five starts combined. All nine of Greinke’s earned runs allowed came at home this season.

Enjoy!
