Games of the Day

The best match-up of the afternoon takes place in game one of the double header in Denver between the Diamondbacks and Rockies. Josh Collmenter faces Tyler Matzek. Collmenter goes after hitters with success. He walked three and allowed one home run in 32 2/3 innings. Matzek has walked 13 batters in 20 innings, so his 2.70 ERA may not last.

Mike Leake takes on Gerrit Cole as the Reds and Pirates lead off the evening’s action. Leake is tough to hit this season, with a .179 BA allowed. Half of his 22 hits went for extra bases, however, so opponents are slugging .350. Cole pitched lights out this season, strong in all three-true outcomes. He’s struck out 35 in 30 2/3 innings while walking eight and allowing just one home run.

Ubaldo Jimenez and Jacob deGrom continue the rematch of the 1969 World Series as the Orioles play the Mets at Citi Field. With just ten hits allowed in 22 2/3 innings, Jimenez is holding batters to a .133 BA and a .226 OBP. deGrom has allowed four home runs, but three came with men on base.

Enjoy!

Looks like likely Pirates starters tonight are 47-for-187 (.251) overall against LEAKE, with 4 HR & 41 K’s. The only hitter who’s had decent success is Mercer (5-for-14).

Corey Hart has done ok in his career (3-for-7) – I wonder if he gets a start tonight???
