The Fall of Ron

I wondered yesterday if Ron Roenicke alienated the veterans on Brewers, but it appears the opposite happened:

Roenicke’s style was to bend over backward for his players to make them feel comfortable. Though club officials wouldn’t say it publicly, some suspected that style eventually worked against Roenicke, that too many players had gotten so comfortable they lost their edge for winning.

How else do you explain the team falling off the face of the earth with a 9-22 finish after leading the National League Central for 150 days last season? When that didn’t change at the start of this season, Roenicke was doomed.

I suppose. Most elite professional athletes want to win at all costs. It they did become complacent, that too bad, since it sounds like they had a good man taking care of them.
