Games of the Day

Houston host the latest battle of Texas as the Rangers send Ross Detwiler against Dallas Keuchel. The pitchers are at opposite ends of the ERA specturm, Detwiler coming into the game with an 8.66 mark, while Keuchel leads the majors at 0.73. It looks like a good game for the Astros to extend their winning streak to 11 games. Detwiler allowed 6 HR in his 17 2/3 innings. Houston leads the AL in home runs hit. Keuchel has not allowed a home run this season, and only 16 hits in 37 innings.

The Cubs trail the Cardinals by 4 1/2 games as they open a four game series in St. Louis. Travis Wood takes on Carlos Martinez. Wood is showing great control this year, with 26 strikeouts and just six walks in 23 2/3 innings. Both his ability to strikeout batters and limit walks this season are much better than his career numbers. Martinez owns a 1.73 ERA. He allowed four home runs in 26 innings, but all four were solo shots.

Finally, Felix Hernandez tries to extend his record to 5-0 as the Mariners try to right the ship against the Angels and Matt Shoemaker. There are just not enough superlatives about the King. Hernandez allowed one homer and six walks while striking out 26 batters in 34 2/3 innings. For him that’s just a typical five start stretch. Shoemaker isn’t walking many batters, but he’s getting hit hard. Opponents own a .301 BA against him, with 12 of the 25 hits going for extra bases.

Enjoy!

The Nolan Curse is real. Just look at everything that has happened to the Rangers and Astros since Nolan Ryan was pushed out in Arlington and went back to Houston.

James Crabtree » So does the team that employs Nolan when he dies get eternal greatness?

Sorry to be silly, Nolan Ryan will never die! He’s more bullet proof than Dick Cheney. 🙂
