Another good starting pitcher goes down, as Brandon McCarthy has a torn ulnar collateral ligament. The Dodgers starter, who had a resurgence with the Yankees last year, will obviously miss about a year. Earlier, the Cardinals confirmed that Adam Wainwright tore his Achilles tendon and will be out for the year. Maybe that will give offense in the NL a boost, but knowing the Cardinals, they have someone in the minors ready to step in.
Despite a generally impressive farm system, I think it’s the Cards, not the Dodgers that are going to suffer most from these injuries.
When you lose a key linchpin it can be more devastating, even though you may have more depth at Triple A.
