Games of the Day

The Orioles finish their series in Boston with the traditional 11 AM start on Patriots Day. Wei-Yin Chen takes on Justin Masterson. Both own high ERAs. Chen’s is due to allowing three home runs already, while Masterson was a timing issue, giving up a .364 BA with runners in scoring position.

The best pitching match-up of the day pits Jake Arrieta of the Cubs against A.J. Burnett of the Pirates. Arrieta turned his career around with the Cubs. He managed a 546 ERA with the Orioles, down to 2.75 with the Cubs. Burnett struck out 15 in 12 innings so far, but he only walked three. That kind of control is unusual for him, except when he played for the Pirates.

Finally, Odrisamer Despaigne leads the Padres into Denver to face the Rockies and Jorge De La Rosa. Despaigne is pitching to contact so far, with just four strikeouts in 11 2/3 innings, but gave up just two hits (and two walks). De La Rosa makes his 2015 debut, with a career .605 winnings percentage (69-45) with the Rockies.

Enjoy!
