Short Span

It looks Denard Span may be playing for the Nationals as early as today:

When Denard Span had surgery to repair a right core muscle on March 9, he expected it would cost him months, not weeks. He will be a free agent after this season, and just had core surgery on his left side in December. That he needed a second procedure — and that it would cost him so much time in a crucial year for his team and his career — frustrated him. He admitted it would be hard not to rush back.

Whether he rushed or he didn’t, Span is back with the Nationals as of Saturday morning. He played back-to-back games in Hagerstown Thursday and Friday, and was 4 for 8 with a home run and two runs batted in. Span said he would talk with the Nationals’ decision-makers about when he would be activated.

Maybe he’s the opposite of Nick Johnson.
