Ubaldo Jimenez just hit Pablo Sandoval in the shoulder, and the home plate umpire immediately ejected Jimenez. There had been no warnings issued. Sandoval had taken out the Orioles shortstop on a previous double play attempt, and this might have been retaliation for that. I don’t have a problem with the ejection, but it was unusual. The pitch was up and in, slightly behind Sandoval who leaned in to try to avoid the pitch.

It’s the bottom of the fourth, and the Red Sox do not have a hit yet. The Orioles lead 1-0.
