A-Rod Okay

The New York Daily News prints a positive story about Alex Rodriguez:

“I definitely think he’s swung the bat pretty good,” Girardi said. “I just think his at-bats are more consistent; his timing is more consistent.”

A-Rod went 1-for-2 with a walk in Tuesday night’s game against the Tigers, giving him a .286 average (8-for-28) with two home runs and three RBI in 13 games this spring.

Rodriguez has shown Girardi enough in the field to give the manager confidence to play him at third base if Chase Headley needs a day off, and while A-Rod hasn’t played first base in a game yet, it looks like that will happen at some point before the spring ends.

His OBP is high, and three of his eight hits went for extra bases. He’ll probably be fine as a designated hitter.

Via Hardball Talk, which notes:

Oh, and we’ve heard almost nothing from him in terms of quotes or other sorts of antics that could label him a distraction.

Maybe the year off did him a world of good.

The turn around has come because Yuri pleading guilty has ended any hope of a further suspension to Arod since he won’t have to testify and nothing further will come out. Yankees now know they are stuck with him and have no choice but to market him now, and their sock puppet media lap dogs will follow.
