With major league teams going through trading frenzies this off-season, Baseball Musings takes a look at the players added by each team this off-season, continuing with the Chicago White Sox. The White Sox brought in the following players from other organizations:
- Emilio Bonifacio, of
- Rob Brantly, c
- Melky Cabrera, of
- Matt Davidson, 3b
- Zach Duke, p
- Onelki Garcia, p
- Dan Jennings, p
- Adam LaRoche, 1b
- David Robertson, p
- Jeff Samardzija,p
- J.B. Shuck, of
The White Sox shored up their weak positions. Leftfielders hit poorly so they brought in Melky Cabrera. The closer role was a mess, so they snagged David Robertson. Adam Dunn retired, so Adam LaRoche joins the team to split time at first base and designated hitter with Jose Abreu. Jeff Samardzija adds depth to a decent rotation. This is exactly what teams should do, replace the weak links with better players. One person not on the above list is Geovany Soto, signed to a minor league contract. An offensive resurgence by the former Cubs backstop could move Tyler Flowers out.
This is an improved team in a tough division. We’ll see if the offense is good enough to support the pitching staff.
