Changes, Baltimore Orioles

With major league teams going through trading frenzies this off-season, Baseball Musings takes a look at the players added by each team this off-season, continuing with the Baltimore Orioles. The Orioles brought in the following players from other organizations:

There’s not much there. Alex Hassan posted high OBPs throughout the minors with little power. Snider was a hot prospect at one time, but probably should be a platoon player. Wright is a good pitcher to fill out the bullpen.

What the Orioles did is not commit money to the free agents who left the team. They got a good year cheap from Nelson Cruz. They got the prime of Nick Markakis. Plus, with the Orioles having done poorly in the years before Dan Duquette arrived, I suspect the team has some prospects in the pipeline. A full year of a healthy Matt Wieters and Manny Machado will help as well. Since Baltimore didn’t make a lot of moves, I assume they felt they could win by basically standing pat.
