I am very surprised to see Boston tied for third in those odds, given the disaster that was 2014 and then the loss of Lester on top of it. I think they’ve had a pretty decent off-season, but I wouldn’t have guessed – and don’t know that I’d agree – that they’d be co-favorites to win the AL…

Lyford » I’m with you on that. I’ve talked to a number of people whose opinions I respect, and they come down just like you. They have the potential for a good team, but I don’t think they are that far ahead of the other good teams in the AL.

A’s are also very low compared to WAR rankings. Fangraphs predicts them as a Wild Card Team, yet these odds have them well below both Seattle and LAA

Regarding the Phillies being 100-1, after less than two years of Ryne Sandberg, to paraphrase the Bill James Historical Abstract, it is rapidly becoming apparent that 1) Charlie Manuel was a better human being than a manager or baseball player and 2) Ryne Sandberg was a better baseball player than a human being or manager. To be honest, he seems pretty much like a curmudgeon. No clue why he’s managing. And to think that Joe Maddon is from Philly….

PS having never won a playoff series, I do not seriously believe the Nationals will win anything this year. Moreover, pitching heavy teams do not historically do well in the playoffs. Finally, when the Phillies tried overinvesting in starters, it did not work in the playoffs in 2010 or 2011, and the biggest problem was not getting the hits. The only guy who seems to know how to hit for the Nats in the playoffs is Jayson Werth.

The Giants look attractive because they know how to win, and so do the Cards and Bosox. The Cubs will make the playoffs but I doubt they will win it all. Pittsburgh is probably undervalued. And so is Atlanta.
