Return to Houston

Jed Lowrie returns to the Astros with a three-year, $23 million deal. While the Astros had very good production from second base in 2014, both third base and shortstop showed the need for offensive improvement. Lowrie should give them a boost. His contract indicates the Astros think he’ll be worth about one WAR a season, so if he can return to his 2012-2013 form for even a season, Houston probably comes out ahead on the deal. It’s a nice example of filling a hole and improving soft spots with a positive WAR player.
