More Weiss

Walt Weiss assumed more responsibility in off-field decisions since Jeff Bridich took over as general manager:

Weiss’ participation in personnel decisions signals a new way of doing business at 20th and Blake.

“I’ve been very involved, probably more so than the last couple offseasons,” Weiss said at last week’s winter meetings. “(I’ve) spent a lot of time downtown at the stadium with Jeff and the rest of the guys upstairs. Anytime there is transition like that, you need to make sure that you get on the same page, make sure you’re all up to speed.”

During his first two seasons as manager, working under former general manager Dan O’Dowd and former assistant GM Bill Geivett, Weiss had some input in player personnel decisions. Under Bridich, Weiss has a bigger voice.

I remember during the long Yankees run of the 1990s and early 21st century, Brian Cashman and Joe Torre worked very closely on these decisions. I’m a bit surprised all teams don’t work that way.
