The White Sox signed Melky Cabrera. At this point, all we know about the three year deal is from player tweets. Speculation would be that he’s being paid for about two WAR a season. That’s fine if you get the 2014 Cabrera, not so good if you get the 2013 version. Assuming that 2011 and 2012 was PED rather than peak fueled, I’d say the 2013 version is the more likely scenario.
Considering the 2013 version spent half the year on the DL with assorted leg injuries, and then had a tumour removed from near his spinal cord after the season was over, I think that might be a bit pessimistic.
Somewhere between the 2013 and 2014 versions is probably more likely. Can easily see him being at least 2 WAR this season and probably next.
