Tom Tango makes a compelling case for using (Runs + RBI) – HR instead of Runs + RBI. I’ve been partial to the latter in my career, mostly based on the writings of Bill James from 1980s. His idea was that you should give credit to someone who marries the run and the RBI in a single event.
I agree Runs and RBI both generally require assistance from others. The self RBI requires help from nobody, just the batter and pitcher.
Maybe split the difference and subtract -1/2HR
