Wainwright was Hurt

Adam Wainwright had a fall-off in strikeouts in July, but bounced back a bit in August and September. All told, however, he went from a 1.82 ERA before the All-Star Break to a 3.24 ERA after. I suspected there was something wrong, and sure enough, Wainwright needed a bit of surgery.

Cardinals ace Adam Wainwright had a procedure to trim cartilage in his right elbow, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.

Wainwright had been dealing with elbow issues throughout the team’s playoff run, though did his best to downplay a possible injury.

It was pretty minor, and a hurt Wainwright was better than most pitchers. He didn’t hold up in the playoffs however.
