Tigers Win the Central

Detroit shutouts Minnesota 3-0 as they clinch the AL Central title on the last day of the season. David Price allowed four hits and two walks in 7 1/3 innings, striking out eight. Ian Kinsler hit a solo home run early in the game, and that was the only run that mattered as two trades comes back to help the Tigers clinch the division title and a trip to Baltimore for the ALDS.

Kyle Gibosn pitched well for the Twins until the eight, when he allowed the final two runs.

One of the three possible ties dies. The Pirates are losing 4-1 in the top of the ninth, so a tie for the NL Central is on life support, and Oakland leads Texas 2-0 in the third. Things are not working out well for playoff games.

The Royals will host the AL wild card game on Tuesday.
