Games of the Day

The Mariners need a win as Felix Hernandez faces R.A. Dickey in Toronto. Hernandez pitches in a very good park for low ERAs, but his 1.98 road mark beats his ERA in Seattle. Dickey is pitching well down the stretch, with a 2.67 ERA in four September starts. He walked just six in 27 innings in the month.

A Pirates win clinches at least a tie for a wild card slot as Gerrit Cole faces the Braves and Alex Wood. Cole is now at 241 1/3 innings for his career, with 8.1 K per 9 IP, 2.5 walks per 9 IP, and .67 HR per 9 IP. That looks like a very promising start to his career. Wood might be just a bit better, but has not received the support to record wins like Cole.

Milwaukee needs a win to guarantee the stay alive another day. Mike Fiers faces Johnny Cueto in Cincinnati. Fiers held batters to a .171/.225/.256 slash line this season, turning every one into the offensive equivalent of good hitting pitchers. Cueto tries to go 19-9 for the second time in his career.

Finally, the Giants try to gain another game on the Dodgers as Madison Bumgarner faces Zack Greinke. Bumgarner is 3-1 this season with a 1.75 ERA against the Dodgers, Greinke 3-0 with a 1.42 ERA against the Giants. This might be a very fast game.

Enjoy!
