Games of the Day

Masahiro Tanaka returns to the mound after months of rehabilitation on his elbow as the Yankees host the Blue Jays. Tanaka pitched impressively well for New York in his 18 starts, and we’ll see today if he’s strong or if he blows out his arm.

Wily Peralta tries to win the rubber game for the Brewers as they face the Pirates and Vance Worley. Peralta allowed just eight of his 23 home runs on the road this season. Worley hit just three batters this season, so if he goes after someone in the Brewers lineup early in retaliation for Andrew McCutchen being hit twice on Saturday, it’s probably not an accident.

The Tigers look to sweep the Royals as they send Rick Porcello against Jeremy Guthrie. Procello owns a 2.18 ERA against the Royals, with one home run allowed and just three walks allowed in 20 2/3 innings. Guthrie allowed the Tigers 22 hits in 13 1/3 innings over three starts, helping him to a 10.13 ERA against Detroit this year.

To the Tigers credit, they stepped up when need and have won four of five September games from the Royals.

The Cardinals play the late ESPN game against the Reds. If the Brewers win, then St. Louis can clinch a playoff spot with a victory. If the Brewers lose, the St. Louis clinches, and a win moves them closer to a division victory.

Enjoy!
